Too Busy Or Misguided Priorities?

5 October 2017 · The Spiritual Path

At an event in Portland, Oregon, I was asked, “What if we don’t have time to spend in reflection in the morning?”

At the end of the day, it comes down to priorities. What’s important in your life?

Everybody has time. I’m sure they have time to update their status or to talk with their friends. It’s amazing. People say to me, “I’m so busy. I have no time.” Yet, when your friend calls you up and says, “Hey, do you want to get together for coffee next week,” you’ll say, “I can’t on Wednesday, but Thursday I have some time. Let’s do lunch.” You have two hours for lunch with a friend.

Do you know how many five minute periods there are in two hours? Twenty-four. That means in a twenty-four day span, you could spend five minutes each morning meditating… You could say no to the two hour lunch with your friend and spend five minutes each morning reflecting on your life for twenty-four days instead. To me, it comes down to priorities. What do you want in your life?

It’s not a privileged position. You deserve to give yourself that time, because you are the most important person in the world. If you look at it that way, and know that if you are a hot mess you can’t be of service to anyone, then you’ll make the time. That’s the greatest gift you can give to anyone—your own personal development. When you are version 2.1 instead of 1.4, you serve the world in a better way.

So, what are you willing to make time for?

My question is ‘ why are we averse to putting effort in personal development??
And what action of mine will help me in footing the right direction??
