Leading a Spiritual Life in the World
March 8, 2011 • Speaking
On Sunday, 20th February I conducted a workshop in San Diego titled “How to Live a Spiritual Life in the World”. It is something I hear a lot of people tell me that they would like to do but are not quote sure where to get started. This inspired me to put together this workshop that took an average day in an average person’s life and I inserted spiritual tools throughout the course of that day that can be easily practiced by anyone in order to bring about the change that they seek.
The first thing we focused on in the workshop was the need to commit to oneself. It is important that you make a commitment to yourself in the spiritual disciplines you are about to undertake (no matter how simple or difficult they may be) to see them through to its end. I encouraged everyone to spend 5-minutes with themselves in the morning, seated in a designated place in their home every day. Then I went on to outline what they could practice in this 5-minutes.
5-minutes does not seem like a lot of time and many have said to me that this can be easily done. I respond: “Sure it can….today. And perhaps tomorrow as well. Try doing this every day for a month or for two months. Now comes the challenge.”
The workshop went on to focus on various other topics such as “Keeping a separation between work and home”, “keeping our awareness with ourselves when we leave the home”, “working with impossible people”, “choosing the right company” and more.
