Flying over the North Pole
September 16, 2013 • Photography & Travel
Greetings from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I arrived here late the night before last after a very long flight from New York via Hong Kong. The 15 hour flight from New York to Hong Kong which I did not expect to be entertaining at all proved me quite wrong. I figured the pilot would start flying west across the US then over the Pacific to Hong Kong.
But I was wrong. He left New York and headed north east (opposite direction it would seem) towards the North Pole, flew over the pole then dropped down into Siberia, flew over this unending land into Mongolia and then across China and into Hong Kong.
The coolest part of all of this was there was no night. The entire flight was in daylight so I had a spectacular visual tour of the North Pole on a clear morning then a fantastic ariel tour of Siberia and Mongolia, two places I’ve always wanted to see but never thought I’d see from the sky.
Here’s a collection of some of my photos from the North Pole. Apparently, if I heard correctly, we were about 200 miles away from the actual pole. I could not see any pole and there was no sign of Superman’s home either. But I saw these amazing sights. Enjoy!
