Overcoming Anxiety
August 1, 2018 • Awareness & the Mind, Learn
I’ve taken a long hiatus from blogging. My apologies. The last few months have been filled with speaking engagements around the world and working on a few important projects including the development of Siva Ashram, our retreat center in Costa Rica. I hope to update you on some of these things in the coming weeks. Here’s my first blog post after my break.
One of our online course students asked me on our study forum about dealing with anxiety. In today’s world, this is a frequently occurring challenge which can dominate our attention and even result in physical symptoms, so I really appreciate this question. I answered it by explaining that anxiety is overcome when you learn to keep awareness on one thing at a time. Always keep bringing awareness back to what you are doing or who you are engaged with. That is why it is so important to learn the difference between awareness and the mind, then from here to learn concentration. Allowing awareness to jump from one thing to another in an uncontrolled way results in anxiety.
