Stop Misusing the Word Meditation
Your hobby is not a meditation; using one word to describe many different things confuses your subconscious mind, so reserve the word meditation for the practice itself.
Dandapani objects to painting or running being called a meditation. Using one word for several different activities confuses the subconscious mind and makes it less effective at helping you. He asks you to use one word to describe one thing.
What this talk covers
- People say that painting is their meditation, or running is their meditation, or sitting cross-legged with regulated breath is their meditation.
- You cannot use one word to describe so many different things.
- When you do, you confuse your subconscious mind, and a confused subconscious becomes ineffective in helping you.
- If meditation for you means sitting cross-legged, closing your eyes, regulating your breath and moving your awareness inward toward higher states of consciousness, use the word only for that.
- Using one word to define one thing brings clarity to the subconscious mind.
Use one word to describe one thing, not one word to describe many things.Dandapani

Your hobby is not a meditation. Often I hear people say, when I paint, that's my meditation. When I go running, that's my meditation.
When I sit down cross-legged and close my eyes and regulate my breath, that's my meditation. You can't use one word to describe so many different things.
And when you do that, you confuse your subconscious mind. And when you confuse your subconscious mind, your subconscious becomes ineffective in helping you. Use one word to describe one thing, not one word to describe many things.
And it'll help bring clarity to your subconscious mind. If meditation for you is sitting down cross-legged, closing your eyes, regulating your breath, moving your awareness inward to try to go to higher states of consciousness, then use that word meditation specifically
for that practice and don't use it for anything else in your life. This way it's clear to your mind, it's clear to your subconscious what meditation actually is. Use one word to define one thing.
