Labor of Love at Chidambaram’s Orphanage
February 22, 2012 • Spiritual Adventures
Just a few minutes outside of Chidambaram town is an orphanage built to house, care and educate special needs persons. All of the residents of this orphanage have challenges with mental development. Most of the residents are young but there are four elders as well.
Sri Kailas Shankar Deeksitar, one of the priests at the temple, and his family milk their cow each morning and deliver the milk to this orphanage. It’s a wonderful service that they perform. Today after the ceremony at the temple they brought us to the orphanage to help distribute some of the food offerings made at the temple especially the sweets.
The orphanage was started by a lady who runs the place as well and when she first started the orphanage there were only 6 orphans. Now there are 70 and they are at capacity.
