Lesson Noted, Lesson Learned

Lesson Noted, Lesson Learned

A couple of weeks back I was speaking with someone who shared with me that she got involved in a personal issue with her client that she should have stayed out of. At that time she felt it was harmless to get involved in the conversation but later the whole thing played out unpleasantly. I shared with her that it is best not to get involve in people's personal matters unless there are good terms of understanding between both parties. She realized the wisdom of this and then remarked to me "well, lesson learned!"

I replied, "No, lesson learned only when it is not repeated again."

She then said "Well then, lesson noted"

We agreed and said "Yes, lesson noted not learned".

It's important to know when you've only noted your lesson and when you have learnt from it. You will only have learned from it when a similar opportunity comes up in the future and you make a wise choice based on the lesson you've noted. Then and only then will you have learnt from your lesson."
