Our South Indian Spiritual Adventure begins!

Today we start our South India Spiritual Adventure with a group of 17 bright and spirited people from the US, Caribbean, Australia and Europe with our orientation being held under a tree in the sleepy coastal town of Mamallapuram in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. For 14 of the 17 people, this is their first trip to India; therefore orientation covered a few basics of Indian culture, Hinduism and temple etiquette, including what goes on in a Hindu temple and how to dress appropriately: • What happens in a prayer ceremony (puja) • What to wear in temples…

We also talked about the mysticism behind temple worship and how this ancient ritual is so profound and necessary at every step on the spiritual path. We focused a lot on temples today as tomorrow we have a rare and special temple experience planned for our group at one of the most sacred temples in South India.

Other great mysteries of India go unanswered…like what the heck is going on with all this head bobbling, how the heck do they stack so many sugar canes onto a truck without it tipping over and where did all the change in India go?
