Tree Planting on our Spiritual Sanctuary, Nosara, Costa Rica
This is a further sharing of the massive tree planting that took place on our Spiritual Sanctuary in Nosara, Costa Rica on May 28th. I’ve fallen behind on my blog posting and hope to catch up this week as I spend the summer at home in New York City.
We acquired about 120 trees from a large nursery close to the town of Liberia which is located about 2 hours north of Nosara. The trees arrived early in the morning, neatly packed in a large truck. We hired five locals to help with this huge endeavor of getting all these trees in the ground. The first step was getting the trees of the truck which was a lot of work. Tim, who does landscaping for a living, took charge and organized the trees into groups representing the various sections on the property they were to be planted on. Once that was done we started to move the trees to the specific locations they were to be planted in. All of these spots had been marked with stakes the day before. Some of the plants were about 6 to 8 feet tall and required 4 people to move them.
Needless to say it was a long exhausting day and we didn’t even dig any of the holes for the trees. The five local Costa Ricans got the holes dug while we marked, planned and moved the trees into position. By the need of the day we had gotten about 80 trees in the ground. In the process of doing so we also made a lot of spontaneous decisions on clearing some additional trees and parts of the property. One of the great things about Costa Rica is that we could get a tractor and a driver in on a moment’s notice.
