I walked up to the check in desk at the Delhi airport to catch my flight south to Kochi and the lady looked up and said "Sir, your flight has been preponed!" I thought to myself "Now, is 'preponed' that Filipino dish that's made with eggplant, because if it is I want some salad on the side with that."
I knew what she was trying to say but really, is "prepone" even a word? Can the word 'prepone' be used as an antonym of 'postpone'? So I turned to google and apparently it is used only in India. And you won't find it in Merriam-Webster's online dictionary. Well, in India anything goes. Indians love using words that most English speakers don't commonly use. For example, in most countries we would refer to a toilet as a restroom, wc, etc but here in India they call it a latrine. Not the first word that comes to mind when you are desperately seeking a place to relieve yourself. Incredible India!
