Temples, stupas, monks and palaces in Kathmandu

The second day of spiritual adventure in Nepal saw us visit the Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu. We wandered the grounds worshipping at the various shrines before stopping by a group of sadhus. We also a witnessed a cremation taking place along the banks of the Bagmati river. From here we headed to Swayambunath and climbed the steps (about 364) that led up the sacred shrine above. It got steep towards the end of the climb. Here, we also joined a group of Buddhist monks praying for a long life for their lama. They were very welcoming and generous to our group. All this before lunch. An eventful morning for sure.

In the afternoon we explored Kathmandu Durbar Square and the home of Kumari the Living Goddess. We ended our day wih a candle light dinner on the balcony of one of the restaurants at the hotel under the Himalayan sky.

    Morning walk in Kathmandu, Nepal

I decided to rise early and take a walk around Kathmandu and explore life just at dawn. The streets were quiet compared to the chaos of the afternoon when I arrived the previous day. It didn't take long to get busy again. Here are some photos from that quite colorful stroll.
