Do you worry a lot? If you do, that’s okay. Most of us—if not all—have never been taught to understand what worry is, what causes it, and how to overcome it. Throughout time, people have always had things to worry about, and today is no different.
The more common modern-day remedy for worry is things like meditation, breathing exercises, and so forth. All these are great, but they are more of a patch than a cure. I’ve been meditating for decades and was formally trained as an ordained Hindu monk, following ancient traditional practices in our lineage. In helping me overcome worry, my guru did not start with meditation or breathing. Rather, he wanted me to understand the mind and what actions within the mind resulted in the feeling of worry, knowing that once I understood this, I could—at a very mechanical level—prevent the acts that result in worry.
Let me share a story my guru once told me. When he was seven years old in 1934, his family was driving back from Lake Tahoe in heavy snowfall. The entire ride, he worried, What if we get stuck? What if we can’t get out of the snowstorm? I’ll miss my favorite radio program!
He noticed his awareness drifting into the future, creating a situation in his mind that had not happened. Catching himself, he brought it back to the present and asked, Are we stuck? He looked around and saw the answer: No. We are still moving.
At that moment, he realized something powerful: fear and worry are future-based. And in the eternity of the present moment, he was perfectly fine. At just seven years old, he affirmed to himself, I am all right, right now.
Every time you notice your awareness slipping into the future, creating a scenario that doesn’t exist, gently bring it back to the present. Remind yourself, I am all right, right now.
Because at this moment, you are. That is why I perpetually emphasize the importance of understanding the difference between awareness and the mind—because once you do, you are on your way to getting a firm grip over worry. And this is well worth striving for.
My Happier Life Program, launching on March 25th, is the culmination of over 30 years of my learnings—what I strongly believe are the fundamental teachings and tools necessary to begin leading a happier, more rewarding, and purposeful life.
If you resonate with my work, I strongly encourage you to invest in this. You’ll have lifetime access, so you can take your time learning and implementing the tools and teachings into your life to create the life you want.
The launch will be open for seven days, and the program will be offered at 50% off, with two added bonuses: lifetime access to my meditation course and four live group Q&A sessions with me.
