A traditional South Indian lunch fit for a king

We headed down to Madurai and on the way stopped in at the Ideal River Lodge for a lunch fit for kings! Here we ate a traditional South Indian lunch called a Thali served on a banana leaf that you eat with your hands. The group got to play with their food and discovered that eating with your hands is fun and good for you! It is believed that the energy of your hands mixing with the food is the first step of digestion. When you’re done with your meal, you let the cook know you liked it by folding the banana leaf towards yourself. Look at these happy hands and faces…

.
We sit down to eat a feast!

For almost everyone it was their first time eating a traditional south Indian meal with their hand.
