Ice Cream to Die For...

Ice Cream to Die For...
Later that evening I was treated to some absolutely delicious ice cream at Salt and Straw - creation of Kim Malek who I pose with in the photo here.

To die for an ice cream would be a hefty price to pay. But in some cases it's worth it, and its especially true for Kim Malek's rock-star creations she scoops out at her shop in Portland, the Salt and Straw ice cream. Oprah herself makes sure to have a few cartons delivered to her from time to time.

The recipe for Kim's artisanal treats is a whole lot creativity and a whole lot of love. I first met Kim when I was speaking at a retreat for the Portland chapter of the Entrepreneurs' Organization in May. Last Thursday, I had the great pleasure of spending a day with her at a workshop I was conducting in Portland. I got to sample some of her ice cream and am already planning my next trip back to get me some more.

She offers varieties that will surprise and delight even the most refined of palates. Salt and Straw uses their ice cream to highlight the best in season ingredients that can be found right in Portland. Flavors such as "watermelon and prosciutto" and "pear and blue cheese" challenge your culinary daring. For the non-vegetarians among us, you can opt to try the mind blowing "bone marrow and smoked cherry" flavor, that is if you are brave enough.

Needless to say if you are ever in Portland and you've got to make a stop at Salt and Straw. And save some for me!
