Our spiritual adventure to Kerala, South India is slightly less than 2-months away. Our 14-day journey will take us from the coast to the hill stations in the Western Ghats. One of your experiences will be meeting Shantha Kumari!

Click here for details if you are interested in finding out more about this journey and participating.

Shantha Kumari is a young elephant in Periyar that is sweet and friendly and loves a bath

Meet Shantha Kumari…
…the elephant. Shantha is among the many elephants that live in Periyar though she’s a little different than the rest. She’s very friendly, enjoys taking people on rides and loves having a bath. We first met her during our 2010 South Indian Odyssey and some members of our group got to ride her and give her a bath. She’s so gentle and sweet.

Elephants in Periyar
Shantha is off for a walk. She’s a young one at only 37-years old. Did you know that elephants eat up to 300kgs (660 pounds) of food and drink about 200 liters (52 gallons) of water a day.

It’s time for Shantha Kumari’s bath…and in Kerala, even elephants get a spa treatment.

Shantha Kumari is grateful to us for scrubbing her down. Now, she returns the favour by hosing each one of us with her trunk full of water.
