Paths in the Mind
July 3, 2017 • Awareness & the Mind, Learn
Here is something deeper for you to reflect upon. I’ll touch on it, but won’t get too deep into this for now. As awareness repeatedly goes to a particular area of the mind, it creates a groove or a path to that area of the mind. As it repeatedly travels back and forth to this destination – let’s call the destination anger – it creates a path in the mind, so to speak, to anger. If you have ever gone hiking in a forest, more likely than not there is a path taking you within the forest to a particular destination such as a waterfall for example. But many years ago there was no path in the forest. Someone discovered the waterfall, then created a path to it. As more and more people came to see the waterfall and walked the path, the path became wider and clearer making it easier to get to the waterfall.
It is the same way with awareness and the mind. If you keep going back to a particular area of the mind such as happiness or anger, you eventually create a wide easy path for awareness to easily access it. And awareness can go there so quickly because it knows the way to that area of the mind and there is a clear path to it.
