Our First Stop: The sleepy sea-town of Mamallapuram
August 28, 2013 • Spiritual Adventures
We want to give you a glimpse into all of the unique destinations that we’ve got pinned on the map for our March 2014 South Indian Spiritual Adventure. This series of posts will share some of the highlights of our trip.
We land in Chennai, but our trip truly begins as we step onto the shore of Mamallapuram.
When you need to escape the madness of metropolitan Chennai, you can take respite in the cozy coastal town of Mamallapuram. This small fishing village rests on the beach in South Eastern India. Colorful fishing boats dot the shoreline, complimented by songs of hammers and chisels as the stone carvers create their renown works of art. Set against the backdrop of the Bay of Bengal is the stunning Shore Temple which was erected in the 7th century and attracts visitors that wish to admire the architecture of this World Heritage Site. Mamallapuram’s rich history flavored with its cultural spice is served fresh off the boat by amiable locals makes you glad you stopped by. It is a great first destination before exploring the untouched regions further south.
Mamallapuram is the first stop on our South Indian Spiritual Adventure in March 2014. Find out more here and send any inquiries to info@dandapani.org
