Day 2 Mardi Himal Trek – Annapurna Range, Himalayas
We slept like babies after a long day of trekking on Day 1. We woke up just as the sun was coming up and were treated to a beautiful sunrise over the valley. Annapurna South, one of the peaks in the Annapurna range, was also visible from our camp grounds and majestically lit up as the sun rose.
After an early breakfast we headed out to trek higher. Our goal was to get to Low Camp which was at an elevation of 2,975m (9,760 feet). After 40 minutes of trekking we arrived at Rest Camp. It was no more than a shack which was a tea house with a million dollar view of Mount Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail). We stopped here for a short while to take in the views then carried on. From here we walked through more of this gorgeous forest we experienced the day before. Rhododendron and magnolia trees were flowering and often covering our path with beautiful flower petals. I have never in my life walked through such a beautiful forest.
We finally arrived in Low Camp where we had lunch and took in the gorgeous views of Fishtail and neighboring peaks. We rested for a while in the sun and then began the journey back down to Forest Camp where our tents were. Our legs by now have had a serious workout and we were so happy to sit around the fire with our crew. It wasn’t long before one of the porters whipped out a drum and they all began singing and dancing. Oh, how much fun was that. We all jumped in and it definitely was one of the highlights of the trip for me – dancing with sherpas and porters up in the Himalayan mountains. You can hear some of their singing below.
Day 2 of our trek ends with great memories….
