The Power of Believing in Yourself
November 3, 2021 • Conversations on the Spiritual Path
Don’t waste time proving yourself to people. It’s an endless and meaningless endeavor, and an absolute waste of time and life.
If you spend time proving yourself to one person then you’ll find yourself needing to prove yourself to others. This then becomes an endless process.
In reading this, please apply wisdom. Obviously, for example, if you’re trying out for a soccer team or applying for a position in a company you will need to prove to the people hiring you that you can do the job. This is different from what I am talking about.
Over the years, I’ve heard phrases like, “I’ll show all of them that I can do it.” Why? Why bother? It serves absolutely no purpose having this mindset.
If you’re doing something then you should do it for you or in service to others. But certainly not to prove something to someone so that your ego can feel better about itself.
Our self-confidence should not be built on the acknowledgment of what others think we can or cannot do. It should be built on the inner knowing, based on past experiential learnings, of what you can do and can accomplish should you put your mind to it.
I also don’t ever do anything because I feel I need to prove to myself that I can do it. If we are not careful this can be a massive waste of time and energy. I do something because there is a purpose behind it. And I know I can do it if I put my mind on it. But purpose is the driving factor not the validation of my ego.
If what you do in life is dependent on how much others believe in you, you will always struggle. My guru had a wonderful saying which he used to say to his monastics, “lean on your own spine.” It’s a great piece of advice. Learn to believe in yourself. Believe in your ability to create and complete things. Start with small projects that you know you can complete. Begin and complete them. This will give you confidence. Build from here.
As I always say, “Small things lead to big things. Small things are doable.”
Be clear of your goals. Stay focused on them. I cannot even begin to tell you how critical the ability to focus is in manifesting the life that you want. Ask yourself if you can focus well or not? If you can’t then it’s time you commit to learning how to do so. Explore my course, Unwavering Focus. It’s well worth the investment of your time, energy and financial resources to study this course if you truly want to learn to focus.
Remember, it’s not about being focused. It’s about what the ability to focus brings to your life. That is why you should want to learn to focus.
In my previous post I talked about preparing for the coming year. Preparation should not only be about making plans or setting goals for 2023 but also asking ourselves what is it from our past that we do not want to take into our future. Simply speaking, the more burdens of the past we carry…Read More
Today’s post is focused on some of the questions that have been sent in. There are way too many to answer but here are some brief, and I emphasize brief, responses. 1. “According to you what is the biggest purpose every human being must have, by accomplishing it they would enjoy the journey?” ~ S...Read More
Here’s my response to a question submitted by one of my weekly email subscribers. “Is listening to music with no words and doing something else distracting? Is that multitasking? I sometimes listen to sounds of frequencies while I work. Our sound bowls.” ~ Nomy It is not distracting. It is...Read More
People think that change is binary but it is not. It is not an on and off switch. If you break an addiction or a habit you abhor for a while then there is a very high chance you will relapse at some point in the future. Should you have worked with yourself in a…Read More
