The first step in managing energy is not gaining more of it. The first step is finding where you are hemorrhaging it.
People constantly ask me how to build more energy — should I journal, meditate, eat healthier, exercise? Wrong first question. If I want to fill a bucket with water, I first make sure the bucket is clean, and then I make sure it has no holes.
“You would literally be insane to put water in a bucket that had a hole in it. First step, plug the holes. Then fill the bucket with water.”
Your body and mind are a bucket that contains energy. You can pour energy in through every healthy practice you know, but if the bucket is full of holes, that energy is leaking out all day. So begin with an audit: how many energetic holes do I have in my life? Who is taking my energy? What is taking my energy? Get rid of those. Then work on living in ways that create more.
In this conversation I also explain the fastest way to release a draining relationship — what many call an energy vampire. Where awareness goes, energy flows. Every time your awareness goes to someone, you are watering your connection with them. Move your ball of light away, and the connection withers on its own — no confrontation required.
And I share the deeper impetus behind all of this: life is not short, it is finite. There is a clear, definitive end. Once you are clear on your purpose and priorities, energy becomes the capital you channel toward them — and suddenly you have a reason to plug the holes.
In this teaching
- Why plugging energy leaks comes before every practice for gaining energy.
- How withdrawing awareness quietly dissolves draining connections.
- Why the finiteness of life is the strongest reason to audit where your energy goes.
Watch the conversation above. Then write down your three biggest energy leaks. Plug those first.
