The key to the superconscious mind is sustained focus. Not a glimpse, not a moment of inspiration — the ability to take awareness to that area of the mind and hold it there, without wavering, long enough to truly experience it.
First, the definition. Focus is my ability to keep my awareness on one thing without it wavering. If I am talking to you and my awareness drifts away, I am distracted. If I can keep my awareness on you the entire time, I am in a state of focus. Most people are physically present but mentally absent — and you feel it, because where awareness goes, energy flows.
In this conversation I describe the mind, in a simplified way, as a three-story building. The bottom floor is the conscious mind — the external world of phone calls and emails, tied to the five senses. The second floor is the subconscious — the storehouse of memory, information, and habit patterns. The third floor is what my guru called the superconscious mind: the source of intuition, creativity, and the higher spiritual states.
Only through a focused state can awareness travel from the first floor to the third. And once there, it takes tremendous willpower to keep it there.
“The key is to go in there and remain in a state of unwavering focus long enough that you can actually experience it in a profound way.”
Picture a thousand-page book. Fan through the pages and you read nothing. Hold your gaze on one page, sentence by sentence, and you can actually read it. Many people touch the superconscious briefly — it feels wonderful, and then they are out. The depth comes from staying on the page.
In this teaching
- A working definition of focus: keeping awareness on one thing without it wavering.
- The three floors of the mind — conscious, subconscious, superconscious — and what lives on each.
- Why focus takes you to the third floor and willpower keeps you there long enough to experience it.
Watch the conversation above. The superconscious is not reserved for mystics. It is reached by anyone willing to build unwavering focus.
